Fall Community Cleanup

Friends of Main Street is partnering with the Winchester Conservation Commission for its Annual Fall Community Cleanup at historic East End Park!

Help us take pride in our community and keep Winsted beautiful by picking up litter along our streets, sidewalks, and waterways. 

​You don’t need to fill an entire bag or venture down to the riverbanks to make an impact. Whether you spend an hour or the entire morning, your time and effort help protect our environment and keep our community clean for everyone to enjoy.

Winchester Conservation Commission will set up an information tent at East End Park at 9:30 am. Bring and wear gloves. If you plan to go to the riverbanks, bring your waders!

While you register and submit your volunteer forms, the Winchester Conservation Commission will have a list of target areas for cleanup, Eco-Friendly trash bags, and latex gloves if needed.

Return by 11:30 pm for Pizza! Bring your filled trash bag(s) to the Public Works truck parked near the Park.

Instructions for Those Picking Up Trash

Have fun and be safe — Priority No. 1!​
  • Wear appropriate clothing: Please wear comfortable walking shoes or waders, old clothing, and a bright-colored or reflective jacket/shirt for visibility.
  • Protect yourself from ticks: Wear long pants and long-sleeved clothing. Tuck your pants into your socks. When you return home, wash all clothing immediately and take a shower to help remove any ticks.
  • Children: All children must be accompanied by an adult.
  • Watch for hazards: Be alert for broken glass and do not pick it up. Small nipper bottles should be included with your trash bag.
  • Recycling: Keep soda cans and glass in a separate bag from other trash so they can be properly recycled at RRDD1.
  • Liability: Friends of Main Street Winsted (FOMS) is not responsible for bodily injury, property damage, COVID-19, or other illness that may occur as a result of participating in this cleanup.
