Welcome. We're making positive things happen in Winsted since 1999!
Friends of Main Street Winsted is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization dedicated to supporting the historic preservation, beautification, and economic growth of Winsted. We achieve this by helping to attract new businesses, support existing businesses, and encourage traffic to downtown. Donations are always welcome! This beautiful fountain was erected at the end of July in 1893 on the Town's Historic Green, known as East End Park. It was a gift to the city from Mary Ann (Blake) Mitchell, who lived across the street from the park in the house at the corner of Grove and Park. When Mary passed away in 1891, in her will, she left $2,000 in trust for its creation, asking only that it be placed opposite her residence. Mary Ann Blake was born January 17, 1814. She was the daughter of Sabra (Bronson) & Jonathan Blake. Jonathan was the justice of the peace and represented the town in the CT General Assembly in 1851. Mary was quite philanthropic, bequeathing over $40,000 to organizations and family. More importantly, she left Winsted with a beautiful fountain in the park! Proud member of: Strong supporter of:
