Frightful Fun - Halloween Window Painting!

October 26th was sixty degrees and sunny -- the perfect forecast for children who have plans to create frightening paintings of ghosts and goblins on storefront windows - a tradition kicking off Halloween activities in Winchester.

More than 90 young students with paint brushes in hand took to Winsted’s storefronts for the 30th annual Halloween Window Painting Contest. The contest is open to all Winchester students from Kindergarten to sixth grade, including those who are attending schools out of town or home-schooled.

"I was so delighted to see the beautiful artwork and was pleasantly reminded of the wonderful memories of doing the window painting for years with my kids!" -- Theresa Cannvao
The young artists painted 50 storefront windows -
from Mad River Music all the way down to the
F&G Richards/Still River Studio!

Students that signed up were paired in teams of two, painting more than 50 storefront windows - from Mad River Music all the way down to the F&G Richards/Still River Studio!

We are so grateful to Rotary Club of the Torrington / Winsted for generously donating the paints and to the Winsted Fire Department for cleaning all of the windows after the judging is complete. Later in the afternoon, the children headed to the Winchester Recreation Department's popular Trunk-or-Treat event while parents tried to figure out the best trick or treat streets with the spookiest houses!

Despite the fact that it's called a contest, the entire town wins as we all benefit from these young artists and their spooky artwork.

Congratulations to all the artists and their parents for continuing this wonderful tradition!
